NACHANA HAVELI

An Oasis in the Heart of the Golden City of Jaisalmer.

ABOUT NACHANA HAVELI

The present Nachana Family are the descendants of Maharawal Jaisal(founder of jaisalmer)and their lineage dates back to lord krishna .The folklore suggests that there was a curse on the royal family living inside the fort, and no Maharaja who lived inside the fort of Jaisalmer had more than one son. Young age deaths were not uncommon due to epidemics and deseases…So in the early 18th century the royal family decided to build Palaces outside the fort. And so the Palace and Nachana Haveli were built..

Maharaj Kesari Singh ji thought of building a very planned and beautiful Palace. So various Artisans were invited to present the Maharaj with their subsequent ideas. Finally the model which was approved was a three story Palace. This model is itself a masterpiece and is kept in the lobby for display, as its intricately carved on a single sandstone. This Haveli was supposed to be three stories, but the Maharaj died when the work was still going on and his next kin in line Maharaj Sultan Singh ji was a minor and so the Haveli is still incomplete.

NACHANA HAVELI

Princess Divya and Prince Vikram converted a part of their Haveli into a Heritage hotel in 1996. Later the youngest Prince Kesari also joined in. Today Prince Vikram's children are the sixth generation of Nachana family residing in this Haveli. This Haveli has witnessed enormous transformation since it was built when pigeons and Harkaras were used to send messages across, to the present time when internet access is available in every room.

The architecture of the Haveli is a great mix of Rajput and Mughal styles. All the rooms have a vaulted ceiling and this dome like structure was inspired by the Mughal architecture. TheBaradari has biggest stone carved pillars in Jaisalmer and reminds one of the Rajput glory. And the basement which was built to be the stable for the Maharaj’s Horses is an architectural marvel. Its one of the biggest basement stables in Rajasthan. The courtyards provide ample sunlight andits a wonderful place to relax and read a book while sipping tea. The Haveli is also known to have the strongest foundation in Jaisalmer.it exudes of romance and beauty .
